IFFS2025, the International Fungi & Fibre Symposium
January 12-19, 2024
Teror, Gran Canaria, Spain

The 20th International Fungi & Fibre Symposium was held in the Canary Islands of Spain at a beautiful convent. There were 87 participants from 19 countries. Host Palma Christian of Spain and her crew of volunteers organized and facilitated for a full week.

All week dye baths were going full bore up on crest of the hill beyond the convent. Volunteers had gathered and dried enormous quantities of six mushrooms before the symposium to ensure there would be enough to work with. It was a herculean feat given how dry the winter had been.

On Thursday, Julie Beeler, author of the beautiful new book,”The Mushroom Color Atlas” #mushroomcoloratlas, taught a incredible workshop on how to make lake pigments and generously donated the leftover pigments to Felicia’s class the next day.

On Friday, Felicia Rice of Moving Parts Press taught a workshop on making artists’ books using inks made with mushroom pigments. The title page was printed in advance in Mendocino.
